Norsk Hydro was in 1996 awarded the prestigeous Her Majesty the Queen's Award (United Kingdom) for Environmental Excellence in the development of the technology behind ODØRLØS. 

The Queen’s Award citation recognized the effectiveness of the technology in dealing with the problems of septicity, particularly the elimination of odor, and acknowledged that it: 

"Does not have any of the safety hazards or sterile conditions which can be experienced using traditional treatments.

Apart from being a very effective and economical way of preventing septicity, one of the secrets of its success is that this technology is also the most environmentally friendly solution to the problem. Unlike other treatments it is non-toxic, non-corrosive and presents no storage or handling problems."
